Key takeaways

  • An influencer search tool filters creators by platform, niche, location, follower range and audience data: Modash lists 37 filters, Kolsquare 100+ and Heepsy 30+ (vendor pricing pages, October 2026).
  • Heepsy ($69 to $229 a month on annual billing) and Modash ($199 or $499 a month on annual billing) publish plan prices, and Heepsy runs a free plan with 500 results a month; Upfluence, Kolsquare and HypeAuditor quote after a demo or call.
  • Database size is a vendor number: Heepsy's own FAQ says its 20M+ database includes creators who have not opted in, while a marketplace lists only creators who signed up.
  • A search tool returns names. On its pricing page, Collabstr describes booking and payment, and Upfluence's Autopilot module and Heepsy's Plus plan list creator payments; the Modash, HypeAuditor, Kolsquare and Influencity pages describe no booking step.
  • Whatever tool found the creator, check engagement on recent posts, fake-follower signs and audience location before booking, and put the ad label in the brief.

What is an influencer search tool?

An influencer search tool filters creators by platform, niche, location, follower range and audience data, so a brand can build a shortlist without scrolling feeds. Options run from free in-app search to paid indexes, demo-led suites and marketplaces where you can book who you find.

TL;DR. Pick an influencer search tool by the filter you cannot work without and by whether you also need to book the creators it finds, not by database size. Indexes search the most public profiles and estimate audience data; marketplaces search fewer creators who signed up and show their prices. Heepsy, Modash and Collabstr print plan prices on their pricing pages, Upfluence, Kolsquare and HypeAuditor quote after a demo or call, and Influencity shows no plan prices in its page text.

This guide is narrower than the overview of the six influencer marketing tool categories. For what a database subscription costs per booking and when a marketplace is cheaper, see the influencer database guide. This page covers the search layer: which filters each tool exposes, how the search itself works, how far you can trust what comes back, and what happens after you pick a name. Vendor facts come from each vendor's own pricing page, checked in October 2026, and every pricing cell links to its source.

Brands hire creators. Creators get paid.

Which influencer search tool fits a European brand? Nine compared

Nine influencer search tools cover most of what brands use in 2026, and vendors also sell them as influencer discovery tools. The table compares filters, coverage, free tier, price and whether the vendor's page describes booking or payment. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, the cell says so instead of guessing.

Collabios is our own marketplace, so read its row with that in mind.

Modash has the widest filter set among the self-serve tools, plus image search from a reference picture and matching against your own customer list. The Modash comparison covers where it beats a marketplace and where it does not.

HypeAuditor puts its 35+ filters behind a demo, but its site offers free tools, including engagement rate calculators and audit tools for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. That makes it useful for checking a creator even if you never buy the search.

Heepsy runs the clearest free plan among the paid indexes: 500 results a month, 10 advanced profiles and 1 project. That is enough to test whether its location and language filters find the creators you need before you pay.

Upfluence sells search as its Find Creators module, with campaign management in Scale Creator Programs and creator payments in Autopilot. Kolsquare sells search as its Discovery plan, and Influencity offers a 7-day trial and shares plan details on a call.

Collabstr is a marketplace: you search creators who listed themselves, see their prices and hire on the platform. The Collabstr comparison sets its fee model next to Collabios.

TikTok One Creative Suite is TikTok's own creator discovery inside its advertising tools. The public page does not show its filters, pricing or regions, so check TikTok's pages for access and cost in your country.

Collabios lists European creators who signed up themselves, and a brand can filter them by platform, category, keyword, country, city, language, gender, creator age, follower range, price range and content type. The limit is roster size. An opt-in marketplace lists fewer creators than a tool that indexes every public account, so for hundreds of outreach targets a month an index is the better tool. If your job is booking a handful of creators rather than building an outreach list, you can filter European creators by platform, country and price on Collabios and compare their listed packages first.

How does influencer search actually work: filters, keywords or lookalikes?

Influencer search works in five ways: structured filters, keyword or AI text search, lookalikes, image search and matching against your own customer list. Influencer discovery in a paid tool usually mixes several of them, while native app search and most marketplaces rely mainly on filters and keywords.

  • Structured filters. These split into two kinds that are easy to confuse. Creator filters describe the person: where they live, what language they post in, their gender, their follower range. Audience filters describe the people who follow them: where those followers live, their age split, how many look like real accounts. Creator filters are close to facts. Audience filters are estimates, which matters in the accuracy section below.
  • Keyword and AI text search. Modash offers natural-language AI search and Heepsy offers both text and AI search. A keyword search can only find what a creator has written down, so a baker who describes herself as a "home cook" will not show up for "baking" unless the tool interprets meaning as well as words.
  • Lookalike search. Modash, Heepsy and Upfluence all let you start from one creator and pull up similar ones. This is the fastest way to widen a shortlist once you have one creator who fits.
  • Image search. Modash lets you search from a reference image, useful for visual niches like interiors or fashion where the look matters more than the bio.
  • Customer matching. Modash ("influential customers") and Upfluence (CMS database matching) can check your customer list for people who already create content. These are often the easiest creators to sign, because they already buy from you.

Which method to lead with depends on what you know. If you know the niche and country, start with filters. If you know one perfect creator, start with lookalikes. If you know your customers but not the creator world, customer matching is worth the trial on its own. Some brands call this job an influencer search engine and others an influencer discovery tool; the filters are the same, and what differs is whether the tool also lets you book.

Collabios search uses the structured-filter method: set platform, category, country, city, language and follower range and then narrow by price range to stay inside your budget.

Brands hire creators. Creators get paid.

Can you run an influencer search for free with native and manual methods?

Yes. Native in-app search on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube costs nothing and still turns up creators the paid indexes miss, especially small accounts. It is slower and gives you no audience data, so it works best for building a shortlist of 20 to 30 names that you then check properly.

  • Keyword and hashtag search in the apps. To search influencers by hand, enter your niche plus a city on Instagram or TikTok, open the accounts tab, and check how recently each one posted. Active creators with a few thousand followers rarely appear at the top of a paid index sorted by reach.
  • Google search operators. A query such as site:instagram.com "vegan" "Lisbon" searches the bios Google has indexed. It is rough, but it finds creators by the words in their profile, which is how keyword search works inside the paid tools.
  • Tagged posts of brands in your category. The tagged tab on a competitor's or neighbouring brand's Instagram profile lists creators who already make sponsored or gifted content in your niche.
  • Your own audience. Check who already tags or mentions your brand. They need the least convincing.
  • Free plans and trials. Heepsy's free plan gives 500 results a month and Modash gives a 14-day trial without a card, so you can test a paid index's filters on your own niche before paying.
  • TikTok's own tools. TikTok runs creator discovery inside its advertising tools; check TikTok's pages for access and cost in your country.
  • Creator directories. If you want European creators sorted by niche without building a search from scratch, start from a directory of Instagram influencers across Europe and narrow from there.

What free search cannot tell you is whether the audience is real and where it lives. That is the job of the checks in the next sections, and it applies to every result, whether it came from a $499 subscription or a hashtag. The guide to finding influencers for your brand lists every channel in full.

Once a native-search shortlist reaches 20 names, you can browse European creators and their public rates on Collabios to see which of them can be booked at a stated price.

How accurate is influencer search data?

Influencer search data is only as accurate as its source. Indexes estimate audience demographics from public signals, and marketplaces show what creators entered themselves. Neither is a measurement you can take at face value, so treat every search result as a lead, not a verdict.

Start with database size, because it is the number vendors lead with. Heepsy's pricing-page FAQ says its search covers the full database of 20M+ creators, "not just creators who have opted in", and that only its marketplace, where creators apply to campaigns, is opt-in. That is a useful reminder that a database-size headline counts public profiles, including people who never agreed to be found, and does not measure how many creators in your niche and country the tool can actually find. The only test that matters is running your own search in a trial.

Audience filters deserve the most caution. Unless a creator has connected their account to the tool, audience location and age are estimates built from public data, and estimates are weakest for small accounts and for creators whose followers are spread across several countries. Ask any vendor how often profiles are refreshed, too: a follower count or engagement figure from months ago can describe a different account.

On a marketplace the trade-off runs the other way. On Collabios, creators build their own profiles, so follower counts are entered by the creators and not pulled from Instagram or TikTok. The follower filter narrows the list, and every result still needs the checks in the next section.

How should brands check the creators an influencer search returns?

Brands should check three things on every creator a search returns before booking: engagement on recent posts, signs of bought followers, and whether the audience lives where you sell. Each takes a few minutes and none needs a paid tool.

  • Recent engagement. Take the last 10 to 12 posts, add up likes and comments, and divide by followers. The free engagement rate calculator does the arithmetic for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Compare the result with the creator's own older posts as well as with peers: a sudden drop is more telling than any industry average. The rest of the free stack is in the free influencer marketing tools guide.
  • Fake-follower signs. Look for follower jumps with no viral post behind them, comments that could sit under any photo, and engagement far below what the follower count suggests. The guide to spotting fake influencers lists the signals in order of how reliable they are. In the US, the FTC's final rule on fake reviews and testimonials, announced in August 2024, also bans buying or selling fake social media indicators such as bot-generated followers or views.
  • Audience location. If you sell in Germany, a creator with mostly Brazilian followers is the wrong booking, whatever the search tool estimated. Ask for a recent screenshot of the creator's own audience insights, which show top countries and cities.
  • Past sponsored work. Scroll back to the creator's last few paid posts and read the comments. Real questions about the product are a better sign than a high like count.
  • Write the label into the brief. In the UK, the ASA says an ad needs a prominent "Ad" label upfront, and brands share responsibility with the influencer. Whichever market you sell in, ask for the disclosure wording before the post goes live.

After these checks, a brand that wants to hire inside a platform can buy a listed package or send a custom offer on Collabios, with a brief that covers tone, visual references, deadline and the disclosure wording the creator's market requires.

Brands hire creators. Creators get paid.

What should European brands check in an influencer search tool?

European campaigns depend on two filters that a global database headline never tells you about: creator language and audience country. A creator based in Brussels may post in French, Dutch or English, and a search that only filters by where the creator lives will mix all three.

None of the paid indexes in the table publishes a Europe-only creator count on the pages checked, so test coverage yourself instead of trusting a global headline. This is a method, not data. Run the same narrow search, for example food creators in Lyon with under 50K followers who post in French, on two or three options: the Heepsy free plan, a Modash trial and a marketplace with free search. Compare how many names come back and how many overlap.

Then check the language filter on the results, not just the creator's city. A tool that returns the right city but the wrong language has only moved the European problem to your shortlist. If a tool has both a creator-language filter and a country filter, and its results survive the engagement and audience-location checks above, it is a good fit for European work, whatever its database size.

On Collabios you can filter by creator country and by language together, which is the combination this test needs, and then repeat the same narrow search on one or two other options to compare.

Brands hire creators. Creators get paid.

How do you turn an influencer search shortlist into a booked creator?

A search tool hands you names; the brief, the price and the payment still have to happen somewhere. Of the tools above, Collabstr and Collabios describe booking and payment on their own pages, Upfluence lists creator payments in its Autopilot module and Heepsy on its Plus plan, and the Modash, HypeAuditor, Kolsquare and Influencity pages describe no booking step. The table shows the six steps and what each looks like on Collabios.

Three stages from influencer search shortlist to booked creator: shortlist and check, agree and brief, pay and review
From a search shortlist to a booked creator in three stages: shortlist and check, agree and brief, pay and review.
StepWhat the brand doesWhat that looks like on Collabios
1. Build a shortlistFilter by platform, niche, country, language, follower range and priceSearch filters for platform, category, country and city, language, follower range, price range and content type
2. Check the shortlistEngagement on recent posts, fake-follower signs, audience locationFollower counts on profiles are entered by the creators themselves, so these checks stay with the brand
3. Agree scope and pricePick a package or ask for a custom scopeBuy a creator's listed package or send a custom offer; chat inside the order starts after booking, and pre-hire messaging is coming soon
4. Brief the creatorTone, references, deadline, disclosure wordingThe order carries a brief covering tone, visual references, deadline and disclosure wording
5. PayCard paymentCard charged at checkout in euros; payment held until you approve the delivery; full refund, fee included, if the creator declines or does not accept within 72 hours
6. Review and releaseApprove, ask for a revision or open a disputeApproving releases the payment; delivery is approved automatically 7 days after submission if you do not respond

One tax point comes up as soon as the creator lives in another country. If a business customer in the EU books a creator based in another EU country, the usual rule is that the creator does not charge VAT and the brand accounts for it in its own country (the reverse charge), as the European Commission explains. The cross-border influencer VAT guide goes through it, and brands outside the EU should check their own rules.

To run these steps in one place, create a free brand account on Collabios, then book a listed package or send a custom offer.

Brands hire creators. Creators get paid.

Creators get found in influencer search through the words in their bio, a clear location and language, regular posting and an engagement rate that survives a check by the brand. Indexes such as Heepsy cover creators who never signed up; marketplaces show you only if you create a profile.

Write your bio for keyword search. Every tool above that offers text search matches the words you use. "Vegan recipes, Lisbon" is findable. "Living my best life" is not. Name your niche in plain words, add your city and country, and if you post in more than one language, say so, because language is a filter on several tools.

Know the thresholds. Modash only lists accounts with over 1K followers. Below that, you will not show up in its index, so native search, hashtags and marketplaces are how brands will find you. That is no disadvantage if your engagement is strong: small accounts with real audiences are what many brands are searching for.

Keep the numbers honest. Brands run fake-follower and engagement checks on what search returns. Bought followers lower your engagement rate and raise the flags those checks look for, so they cost you bookings. Run your own numbers through the engagement rate calculator before a brand does.

On a marketplace, your profile does the selling. On Collabios, brands filter creators by niche, city, platform and price range, so a clear package price helps you show up for the right budgets. Pre-hire messaging is coming soon; for now brands book first and chat with you inside the order, which means your profile has to answer the questions a brand would otherwise ask in a DM: what you deliver, how fast, and what it costs. Joining and listing are free, and a commission applies only when an order completes (see the pricing page). You can create a free creator profile on Collabios and list your services at your own rates.

Which next step fits your situation?

Choose by job: a marketplace to book a few creators, an index to build an outreach list, a suite for team programmes. This table routes each job to a tool type from this guide.

Pick the tool that matches the job. If the job is building an outreach list of dozens of names a month, trial an index first: Heepsy lists a free plan and Modash a 14-day trial. If the job is booking a handful of creators at listed prices, find influencers on Collabios by platform, niche and country or create a free brand account. If you are a creator, create your Collabios profile so brands that filter by niche, city and language can find your packages. Once you have a shortlist, the hire influencers guide covers the brief, the contract and the payment.

FAQ

What is an influencer search tool?

An influencer search tool is software that filters creators by platform, niche, location, follower range and audience data, so brands can build a shortlist without scrolling feeds by hand. Examples include indexes like Modash, HypeAuditor and Heepsy, suites like Upfluence and Kolsquare, TikTok One Creative Suite, and marketplaces like Collabstr and Collabios.

Which influencer search tool or marketplace should a European brand use to find and book creators?

It depends on volume. A self-serve index such as Heepsy or Modash fits a team that searches hundreds of public profiles a month and handles outreach, contracts and payment elsewhere. A suite such as Upfluence or Kolsquare fits a team running programmes across markets and buying through a demo. A marketplace such as Collabstr or Collabios fits a brand that books a handful of creators at listed prices without a software subscription. Collabios lists only creators who signed up, so it covers far fewer profiles than an index, and follower figures are entered by the creators, so check them yourself. Run the same narrow search on at least two options before you commit.

Is there a free influencer search tool?

Yes. Heepsy has a free plan with 500 results a month, 10 advanced profiles and 1 project. Modash offers a 14-day trial without a card, and HypeAuditor has a free start with demo versions of its features. Collabstr and Collabios are free to browse. In-app keyword and hashtag search on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube is free too, but shows no audience data. Prices and limits checked October 2026.

How much do influencer search tools cost?

Heepsy charges $69, $149 or $229 a month on annual billing ($89, $199 or $299 month to month). Modash charges $199 or $499 a month on annual billing (yearly totals $2,388 and $5,988), with Enterprise from $14,700 a year. Collabstr's paid plans start at $249 a month billed annually. Collabios has no subscription and charges a service fee on each booking, shown on its pricing page. Upfluence, Kolsquare and HypeAuditor quote after a demo or call, and Influencity's page text shows no plan prices. Prices checked October 2026.

Do influencer search tools need an annual contract, and is there a startup discount?

Heepsy and Modash both discount annual billing. Upfluence says annual plans carry a 12-month minimum contract. Kolsquare gives qualifying startups a 30% discount: created less than 3 years ago, raised less than EUR 500K and fewer than 10 employees. Collabios has no subscription, so there is no contract to sign. Terms checked on the vendors' pricing pages in October 2026.

Is there an influencer finder tool that also lets me book the creators it finds?

Yes, marketplaces fold search and booking into one place. Collabstr and Collabios let a brand search creators and hire them on the platform. Among the indexes and suites, Upfluence's Autopilot module and Heepsy's Plus plan list creator payments, while the Modash pricing page, checked October 2026, describes no booking or contract step. On Collabios a brand filters creators, buys a listed package or sends a custom offer, pays by card at checkout in euros, and approves the delivery before the payment is released.

How accurate are influencer search tools?

Treat the results as leads. Creator filters such as location and language are close to facts, but audience location and age are usually estimates built from public data unless the creator has connected their account. Marketplace profiles show what creators entered themselves. Check engagement on recent posts, look for fake-follower signs and ask for an audience insights screenshot before booking.

Can I search for influencers by country and language in Europe?

Yes, but check which tool has both filters. Heepsy filters by creator location and language, Modash adds audience location, and Collabios filters European creators by country, city and language. None of the paid indexes publishes a Europe-only creator count, so run the same narrow search on two or three options and compare the results before paying.

As a creator, how do I get found in influencer search?

Name your niche in plain words in your bio, add your city and country, state the languages you post in, post regularly and keep your engagement real. Modash only lists accounts with over 1K followers, so smaller creators are found through native search and marketplaces. On a marketplace, a complete profile with clear package prices matters most.

What is the difference between an influencer search engine and an influencer discovery tool?

In practice both names describe the same job: filtering a pool of creators by platform, niche, country and follower range. The difference is what comes after the search. An index returns names you contact yourself, while a marketplace also takes the order and the payment.

Does Collabios check creator follower counts?

No. Follower counts on Collabios profiles are entered by the creators themselves. Brands should run their own engagement and fake-follower checks, using the free Collabios engagement rate calculator or any other tool, before booking.

Do creators pay to appear in influencer search tools?

In an index such as Heepsy, creators do not pay or apply: its FAQ says the search covers creators who have not opted in. On Collabios, joining and listing are free and a commission applies only when an order completes, as the pricing page explains. There is no subscription.

Whichever side you're on, Collabios connects you: brands hire creators, creators get paid per collaboration.
